Bureaucratic Conventions
- Name conventions: first, middle, last (first=given name, last=family name)
- Date conventions: month day, year (May 22, 2021 or 5/27/21 said five twenty seven twenty one)
Number Punctuation Conventions
- Commas: separate thousands and every three after that. (1,000=one thousand, 12,452=twelve thousand four hundred fifty two)
- Decimals: money or fractions $25.95 or 2.25 gallons of gas
- Parentheses: in phone numbers (area code) num-bers (317) 123-4567
- Dollar sign: dollar general sign first with a decimal separating dollars and cents ($12.45)
Saying Numbers
- Numbered streets: add -th
26th Street=twenty sixth street
146th Street=one hundred fourth sixth street
- Highways: two digit add the word highway after (highway seventy), three digit say the first number and the second and third combined (270: two seventy, 465: four sixty five)
- Money: $12.95 (twelve dollars and ninety five cents or twelve ninety five)
